BWCE are delighted to announce the installation of a large-scale 170kW solar system on the roof of Writhlington School in Radstock.
The 450 panel system was installed by Aniron and funded by BWCE, so the school paid nothing towards the installation.
BWCE own and maintain the panels and are selling the clean energy generated to the school at a cheaper rate than the electricity grid.
This project demonstrates the ability of community energy to deliver an environmentally and economically sustainable solution in the face of the climate crisis and sharply rising energy prices. In addition, surplus income from the solar pv will be donated via the BWCE Fund to local community projects to reduce carbon emissions and address fuel poverty.
So, it’s a win, win, win for the school, the environment and the community.
“In a time where climate concerns are ever growing we are pleased that we have the opportunity to take steps toward reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. We have worked closely with BWCE to develop a renewable energy package that benefits the school and wider community.”
Keith Howard, Headteacher
Writhlington School is part of the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership and we are currently discussing with them how other schools in the partnership can benefit from our offer of free solar pv installation.
“We are experiencing a pivotal time in regard to climate change and as such reducing our impact on the environment across the trust is a priority. We are very pleased that Writhlington have taken this large step toward reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. We are working with BWCE to action our wider carbon reduction initiative that seeks to support all of the schools across the trust to become more sustainable in their energy use.”
Chris Hobbs, Chief Operating Officer for Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership
