Chew Valley Plants Trees formed in 2020 in order to help address the Climate & Ecological Emergency at a grassroots local level. Our first act was to rescue 1000 oaks which were going to be thrown away by a nursery who, in the pandemic, could no longer keep them alive. We distributed them to landowners, farmers and ordinary home owners across the Chew Valley helping with planting and advice, and ensured that they all found a home.

We set a vision to support the doubling of tree cover in the Chew Valley between 2020 & 2030, providing carbon capture, enhanced ecosystems for biodiversity and promoting sustainable food production.

We seek to cultivate our community to help us achieve this.

We engage in expert-advised conversation to find the right tree for the right place, and to ensure that landowners wishing to plant trees feel supported in doing so.

We work alongside local landowners and volunteers to enhance local farming, planting in the margin lines of productive arable land and encouraging sustainable methods such as agroforestry and the use of silvopasture.

We encourage the growing of local native trees from seed and invite people to build a relationship with trees they have planted offering TLC in the years ahead.

We are always happy to have new people join us as landowners, farmers, funders, planters and Steering Group Members.

More about our work can be found here where people can also fill in a contact form to keep in contact and make a donation to our work.
